What Is HYROX?

HYROX is a global fitness race that combines running with functional workout stations. The race format consists of eight 1 km runs, each followed by a functional exercise station: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls. It takes most athletes 60 to 90 minutes to complete and is open to all fitness levels, with options to race solo, in doubles, or as a relay team.

It's the perfect goal if you love the idea of combining running with real strength work. At CrossFit BC, we offer 25+ HYROX classes a week, including 4 dedicated 90-minute SIM-ilar sessions for race intensity, pacing, and station strategy.

The Race

HYROX Vancouver: dates, venue & categories

HYROX returns to Vancouver every December at the waterfront Convention Centre. Here is when it runs, where it is held, and the divisions you can race, then train for it with one of Vancouver's official HYROX Training Clubs, 10 minutes from the venue in Olympic Village.

Dates

17 to 20 December 2026, Vancouver Convention Centre

Four race days. Thursday has men's, adaptive men's, doubles, women's, and adaptive women's. Friday has men's, pro categories, doubles, relays, and women's. Saturday has men's, doubles mixed, and pro doubles. Sunday closes with doubles women, women's, and adaptive women's. The schedule is provisional.

Venue

Vancouver Convention Centre West

1055 Canada Place, Vancouver BC. CrossFit BC is the closest official HYROX Training Club, a 10-minute trip away in Olympic Village.

Race categories

Open

Singles, standard weights. No time cutoff, the most popular first-timer division.

Pro

Singles, heavier station loads for experienced racers chasing a ranking time.

Doubles

Two athletes splitting every station, running all 8 km together.

Relay

Four athletes, each taking a leg of the running and stations as a team.

Every division races the same format: 8 km of running broken into eight 1 km segments, each followed by a functional station (SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, wall balls).

Latest results

HYROX Vancouver 2025 drew 7,892 athletes across 14 divisions at the Vancouver Convention Centre. See the full Open and Pro podiums, division breakdowns, and race splits.

New cities · Just dropped

Spring 2027 · HYROX North America

HYROX North America just announced the biggest season yet: 11 race weekends across the US and Canada. Pick a city, plan your build, and train for it here at one of Vancouver's official HYROX Training Clubs.

Season announced Jul 15, 2026

Showing 13 of 13 races

Training out of Vancouver? Build for any of them here.

Every station on-site, 25+ race-format classes a week, and certified HYROX Performance Coaches who race the format themselves. Whether Chicago is your debut or San Diego is your ranking chase, we'll periodise the build.

Dates and details are sourced from HYROX North America's official announcement and may change. Confirm on the official event page before booking travel. HYROX recommends waiting on hotels until official athlete blocks are released.

Your "what to do next" playbook

HYROX reserves a large chunk of inventory for the Public Sale, and more tickets typically release closer to race day. You still have real options for December 17 to 20, 2026, here is the game plan.

Read the public sale game plan
  1. 01. Join the official HYROX waitlist

If your division shows sold out, add your email to the athlete notification list on the official HYROX Vancouver page. HYROX notifies this list first when extra tickets or capacity changes are released.

  2. 02. Line up for the Public Sale, July 23, 12 PM PDT

Log in 20 to 30 minutes early to place higher in the digital queue. Pre-fill your account and payment info so checkout is one click. Racing Doubles or Relay? Have your partner buy on a separate device at the exact same time.

  3. 03. Grab a Charity Ticket

When standard athlete tickets vanish on public sale day, Charity Tickets usually last longer. They require a fundraising commitment, but they guarantee entry.

  4. 04. Volunteer for priority + a free future entry

HYROX runs on volunteers. Work a shift at Vancouver and you earn priority ticket access plus a complimentary entry voucher for a future HYROX Canada race.

  5. 05. Check back around 30 days before race day

HYROX Flex ticket transfers and last-minute cancellations reliably release a fresh wave of tickets roughly 30 days out. Keep training, keep watching the official page in mid-November.

Keep training while you wait

Tickets favour the ready. Lock in your race prep so when a spot opens, you are already dialed.

What Makes Us Different

What Are SIM-ilar Classes?

4 of our 25+ weekly HYROX sessions are dedicated 90-minute SIM-ilar classes: race-style training designed to build the confidence, rhythm, and readiness you need on race day. They're not full HYROX simulations, but they're the closest you'll get without paying a registration fee.

90 minutes

Long enough to train race-length intensity and pacing.

Race intensity

Built to feel like race day, not just another conditioning class.

Station transitions

Move between runs and stations the way you'll move on race day.

Pacing & strategy

Learn what your splits feel like before they cost you on the course.

Why "SIM-ilar" and not "SIM"?

Out of respect for the official HYROX SIM event format, we call ours SIM-ilar. Same race-day feel and station flow, programmed by certified HYROX Performance Coaches who've raced it themselves.

Five Formats. One Complete Athlete.

At CrossFit BC, we don't just train people for a race. We build hybrid life-athletes who are strong enough, fast enough, and resilient enough to take on any challenge that comes their way. HYROX is the proving ground, but the fitness you build here goes far beyond a finish line.

Foundational

Build Your Base

Where every athlete starts. Circuit-style training that builds the broad fitness foundation: strength, endurance, aerobic capacity, agility, and movement skill. This is your launchpad.

Engine

Build Your Aerobic Capacity

Intervals, compromised efforts, and sprint work designed to develop speed, VO2 max, and lactate threshold. This is where your running gets faster and your recovery between stations gets shorter.

Power

Strength Under Fatigue

Move weight over time while fatigued. Muscular strength and endurance training that builds the raw durability HYROX demands and life rewards. Push sleds. Pull weight. Keep going.

Complete

Race-Specific Preparation

The most race-specific format. Blending aerobic and lactic conditioning with strength and HYROX-specific skills. Builds familiarity with the discomfort of race day so nothing surprises you.

SIM-ilar

90-Minute Race-Intensity Training

Where everything comes together. 4 of our 25+ weekly HYROX classes are dedicated 90-minute SIM-ilar sessions built to train race intensity, pacing, transitions, and station strategy in a longer-format, HYROX-specific environment. On official HYROX sleds and turf. This is the session our athletes credit most for their race-day confidence and readiness.

Results That Show Up

The Numbers Behind Our HYROX Athletes

We've been coaching hybrid athletes in Vancouver for 18 years. Here's what consistent training at CrossFit BC actually produces.

Member outcomes vary, but the pattern doesn't. Show up, follow the programming, and the results follow.

Know your number

The HYROX PFT, Explained

The HYROX Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is a baseline workout that measures your fitness and helps you pick the right race division. Think of it as a mini-HYROX: complete it as fast as you can, then use your time to decide whether Open, Pro, or Doubles fits you best. We run the PFT with members at CrossFit BC so you start your training block with a real number, not a guess.

The test, in order

  1. 11,000 m Run
  2. 250 Burpee Broad Jumps
  3. 3100 Stationary Lunges
  4. 41,000 m Row
  5. 530 Hand-release Push-ups
  6. 6100 Wall Balls (6 kg men / 4 kg women)

Pro

15-25 min

Single / Open

25-35 min

Doubles / Relay

30-45 min

Your PFT time tells you where to race and where to focus. We re-test through a training block so you can see the runs, stations, and transitions get faster on paper, not just on feel.

HYROX + The Bigger Picture

What we mean when we say "hybrid training"

Hybrid training combines strength, engine, skill, and strategy into one programmed system. Not CrossFit on Monday and HYROX on Tuesday, one coaching team building one athlete who can do both, and stay capable for the next twenty years.

Strength

CrossFit + Olympic lifting

Engine

HYROX-style conditioning

Skill

Gymnastics + mobility

Strategy

Personalised coaching

A single-modality gym trains one of these. We train all four under one roof, with one coaching team that knows both your back-squat history and your race plan.

Questions We Hear a Lot

HYROX training at CrossFit BC starts with 3 free classes for Vancouver locals. The Engine Room is our only HYROX membership. It covers all 25+ weekly HYROX classes, including the 4 SIM-ilar sessions, for $497 paid in full or $189 every four weeks over 12 weeks. HYROX class packs and drop-ins remain available.
Where can I train for HYROX near me in Vancouver?
CrossFit BC is the closest dedicated HYROX Training Club to downtown Vancouver, located at 278 East 1st Avenue in Olympic Village, about 10 minutes from the Vancouver Convention Centre race venue. We run 25+ HYROX classes a week including 4 dedicated 90-minute SIM-ilar race-prep sessions on official HYROX equipment. Members drop in from Yaletown, Mount Pleasant, False Creek, Kitsilano, and both North and West Vancouver.
How do I register for HYROX Vancouver 2026?
Register directly at hyroxcanada.com for HYROX Vancouver 2026 (December 17–20, 2026 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West). Active CrossFit BC members get early pre-sale access before the general public, plus Doubles partner matching through our race-partner board so you can find a training and race partner at your pace.
Is there a HYROX in Vancouver?
Yes. HYROX returns to Vancouver on December 17–20, 2026 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. CrossFit BC is one of Vancouver's official HYROX Training Clubs, located 10 minutes away in Olympic Village, with 15+ race-specific classes a week.
Is HYROX coming to Vancouver in 2026?
Yes. HYROX Vancouver 2026 takes place December 17–20, 2026 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. Registration is open. Train for it at CrossFit BC's HYROX Training Club in Olympic Village, the closest dedicated HYROX gym to the race venue.
What is the HYROX workout in Vancouver?
The HYROX workout is 8 rounds of a 1 km run followed by a functional fitness station: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and 100 wall balls to finish. CrossFit BC trains all 8 stations on-site in Vancouver.
Is HYROX harder than CrossFit?
HYROX and CrossFit are hard in different ways. HYROX is endurance-dominant, 8 km of running plus repetitive functional work for 60–90 minutes. CrossFit is strength-and-skill dominant, heavier loads, more variety, shorter intervals. Most CrossFit athletes find HYROX cardio harder; most HYROX-only athletes find CrossFit's strength and skills harder. We coach both at CrossFit BC, so you don't have to choose.
How long is a HYROX race?
A HYROX race is 8 km of running broken into eight 1 km segments, each followed by a functional station. Most first-timers finish in 1:20 to 2:00, strong recreational athletes break 1:15, and the world's elite go under 60 minutes. The Open division has no time cutoff, so you finish when you finish.
What is a good HYROX time for a beginner?
For a first-timer racing Open division, a finish around 1:30 to 2:00 for men and 1:40 to 2:10 for women is completely respectable. Going sub-1:30 (men) or sub-1:40 (women) already puts you ahead of most first-timers. Focus on finishing strong and steady before chasing a number.
How much does a HYROX race cost?
Entry fees vary by city and division, but most singles entries land in roughly the $90 to $150 CAD range, with doubles and relays priced per team. Popular events like HYROX Vancouver sell out, so registering early is both cheaper and the safest way to lock in your spot.
How do I get HYROX presale early access?
The surest way is to train at an authorized HYROX Training Club. As an authorized HYROX Training Club, CrossFit BC gives active members early access to HYROX ticket pre-sales for races all over the world before the general public, from Vancouver and Toronto to races abroad. We email the pre-sale code the moment HYROX releases it, so members lock in their city, division, and time slot before popular races sell out, then travel and race with a crew that trains together.
What does HYROX stand for?
HYROX is not an acronym. The name blends hybrid fitness with the sport's mix of running and functional strength. In practice it means one standardized global fitness race: 8 kilometres of running paired with 8 functional workout stations, run identically in every city so you can compare your time against athletes worldwide.
Is HYROX CrossFit?
No, HYROX and CrossFit are separate sports. HYROX is a fixed-format endurance race with the same 8 runs and 8 stations every time. CrossFit is constantly varied strength and conditioning with no set test. They complement each other well, which is why CrossFit BC coaches both under one roof in Olympic Village.
How does HYROX work?
You run 1 kilometre, complete one functional station, then repeat until you finish 8 runs and all 8 stations: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, row, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and 100 wall balls to close it out. The clock runs the whole time, including transitions, and your total time is your result.
How heavy are the wall balls in HYROX?
In the standard divisions the wall ball is 6 kg (about 13 lb) thrown to a 10 ft target for men, and 4 kg (about 9 lb) to a 9 ft target for women, with 100 reps as the final station. Pro divisions use heavier balls. CrossFit BC trains wall ball volume and pacing every week so the last station does not break you.
How long is the sled push in HYROX?
The HYROX sled push is 50 metres, run as four 12.5 metre lengths on a dedicated track. Loads scale by division and by event flooring. CrossFit BC has a full 30 metre sled track on-site so you can rehearse race-spec sled mechanics before you compete.
I'm not a runner. Can I still do HYROX?
Yes. HYROX isn't a running race - it's a fitness race. Running segments are broken up by functional stations, and we train you for all of it. You don't need to be fast to start.
Do I need to have raced before?
Not at all. Many members train for months before their first race. We build your fitness, teach pacing, and get you confident before race day.
How fit do I need to be to start?
If you can run a few kilometres and do basic functional movements, you're ready. We scale everything. That's what the training is for.
What does a typical HYROX class at CrossFit BC look like?
A standard 60-minute session runs: 10-min warm-up (mobility + run drills + activation), 5-min movement primer on the day's stations (e.g. sled mechanics, wall ball depth, ski technique), then a 35-40 min main piece that pairs running intervals with 2-3 race stations – for example 4 × (400 m run + 20 wall balls + 50 m sled push) – finishing with a short cooldown and accessory work for posterior chain or core. Our 90-min SIM-ilar sessions (3× per week) stack race-intensity efforts and race-level volume so you rehearse pacing, transitions, and station strategy.
How does scaling work for beginners?
Every movement, load, and distance is scaled to where you are today. Examples: runs become rower or bike intervals if your knees aren't ready; sled push drops to an empty sled or a band-resisted march; wall balls go from 20/14 lb to 14/10 lb, or to a med-ball squat-and-press; burpee broad jumps become step-up burpees; sandbag lunges shorten the distance or drop to bodyweight. Coaches set your scaling at the whiteboard before the clock starts, and you progress on a 4-6 week ramp until you're hitting the prescribed standard.
Can I do HYROX and CrossFit?
Absolutely. Most of our HYROX athletes also do CrossFit. The two complement each other perfectly - broad fitness base plus race-specific work.
What are the SIM-ilar classes?
4 of our 25+ weekly HYROX sessions are 90-minute SIM-ilar classes designed to train race intensity, pacing, transitions, and station strategy. They are race-prep classes rather than a literal race replay, and they are one of the best ways to build race-day confidence, rhythm, and readiness.
Is CrossFit BC a HYROX Training Club?
Yes. Our coaches are certified HYROX Performance Coaches who have raced HYROX themselves.
How does CrossFit BC compare to a HYROX-only gym?
We're not against single-modality HYROX gyms - they have their place. But we offer something different: 25+ HYROX classes a week (4 are 90-min SIM-ilar) plus the CrossFit, Olympic lifting, gymnastics, and personalised coaching that build the strength and engine behind your HYROX time. You get race-specific work AND the broader athletic base that keeps you progressing for the next decade. Same coaches who design your race plan know your back-squat history. That's the hybrid advantage.
What's the Sunday Funday Cardio Club?
Every Sunday, 7:30-8:30am. A coached engine session that is welcoming at every pace. Some weeks a seawall run, some weeks rowing, ski and bike intervals, some weeks a mix. Social at the front and back, honest work in the middle. Free for members and non-members.

Straight answers

What usually stops people signing up

The three we hear most often, answered straight.

Walking in the door

“I need to get in shape before I come in.”

No. Every class is scaled to the person in front of the coach, and your first sessions are about learning positions, not chasing a score. Getting fit first is the part we do together.

Foundations walks you through the 11 movements before you join regular classes if you would rather learn in a quieter room first.

Start with 3 free classes

From Dai's writing: I was scared less, but I did it anyway (and kept on doing it!) (2019)

Motivation and consistency

“I can't do pull-ups, running, or any of that.”

Every movement has a version you can do today, and that version is the workout. Pull-ups start on a band or a ring row, running can be a bike or a row, and the coach picks with you before the clock starts.

From Dai's writing: Overcoming the "I Can't" Mindset: How to Embrace the Power of "I Can" (2024)

Walking in the door

“HYROX looks like a runners race and I am not a runner.”

No. HYROX is a fitness race with running in it, and the running is broken into eight short segments between stations. We build your running the same way we build a squat: in doses, with coaching, starting from wherever you are today.

Plenty of members start with run-walk intervals or swap early runs for a bike or rower while their legs adapt. Nobody is timing your first 400 metres.

See HYROX training

Motivation and consistency

“I am not signed up for a race, so why train HYROX?”

Yes, and most people in the room are in exactly that spot. The format is simply a well built engine session: running, sleds, carries, and wall balls. Race or not, it is one of the most useful hours of conditioning you can do in a week.

Walking in the door

“Everyone in those classes already looks like an athlete.”

The room ranges from first-timers to podium racers, and the session is scaled for each of them. Sled loads, run distances, and wall ball weights are set before the clock starts, so you train the same session at your level.

From Dai's writing: Overcoming the "I Can't" Mindset (2024)

Recognised by the people who run the race

"Dai is an incredible leader and true pioneer for HYROX in Canada. Through his work at CrossFit BC, he has cultivated an amazing community built on passion, connection, and a shared commitment to helping people become their best. From my very first interaction with Dai, it was clear how deeply he cares - not only about the success of his own athletes and coaches, but about the continued growth of HYROX as a whole. His passion for the sport is contagious, and he consistently brings the energy, ideas, and grit to make things happen. Dai is someone who genuinely invests in his people. I am incredibly grateful to be connected with Dai and could not be more excited to continue working alongside him as we grow HYROX throughout Canada."

"I've been attending the Hyrox classes at CrossfitBC for 3 months now and am really enjoying them. The instructors have all been great, very encouraging, explaining movements very well, good warm up before all sessions. Specifically, the coaching has been tough but fair, which is exactly the sweet spot. No doubt all the hard work is going to pay off come race day."

HYROX Youngstars, ages 8 to 15

HYROX runs a youth division alongside the adult race: the same eight stations in the same order, with runs, loads, and a couple of movements scaled across four age brackets. Our group classes are 16 and up, so we coach young athletes by arrangement, in small-group or one-to-one sessions. Parents get the brackets, the station adaptations, and the race-day rules in one place.

The only HYROX-certified gym in Vancouver with race-prep SIM-ilars.

Coach-built, source-backed

The four levers behind a good HYROX race

HYROX is a lifestyle as much as it is a race. Training is one lever of four. These are the practices our coaches use with Vancouver athletes, with the research they rest on cited underneath.

Build the engine that survives eight transitions

HYROX rewards the athlete who can still run after a sled. That is an aerobic base problem first and a strength problem second, so we build both in the same week rather than trading one for the other.

  • Keep the large majority of weekly running and erg work easy, and reserve two hard sessions for compromised running and station work.[10]

Elite endurance athletes hold a low-intensity-heavy distribution, and it is the pattern that keeps working athletes uninjured.

  • Rehearse the exact station order and distances rather than training the movements in isolation.[1]

The official rulebook fixes the sequence, loads, and penalties, so the race is a known test you can practise.

  • Run at least one full-length 90-minute SIM-ilar session per training block before race week.

Fitness is not the same as knowing your pace, your grip fade, and your transition habits under fatigue.
