Yes. HYROX Vancouver 2026 takes place December 17–20, 2026 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. Registration is open. Train for it at CrossFit BC's HYROX Training Club in Olympic Village, the closest dedicated HYROX gym to the race venue.

What is the HYROX workout in Vancouver?

The HYROX workout is 8 rounds of a 1 km run followed by a functional fitness station: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and 100 wall balls to finish. CrossFit BC trains all 8 stations on-site in Vancouver.

Is HYROX harder than CrossFit?

HYROX and CrossFit are hard in different ways. HYROX is endurance-dominant, 8 km of running plus repetitive functional work for 60–90 minutes. CrossFit is strength-and-skill dominant, heavier loads, more variety, shorter intervals. Most CrossFit athletes find HYROX cardio harder; most HYROX-only athletes find CrossFit's strength and skills harder. We coach both at CrossFit BC, so you don't have to choose.

How long is a HYROX race?

A HYROX race is 8 km of running broken into eight 1 km segments, each followed by a functional station. Most first-timers finish in 1:20 to 2:00, strong recreational athletes break 1:15, and the world's elite go under 60 minutes. The Open division has no time cutoff, so you finish when you finish.

What is a good HYROX time for a beginner?

For a first-timer racing Open division, a finish around 1:30 to 2:00 for men and 1:40 to 2:10 for women is completely respectable. Going sub-1:30 (men) or sub-1:40 (women) already puts you ahead of most first-timers. Focus on finishing strong and steady before chasing a number.

How much does a HYROX race cost?

Entry fees vary by city and division, but most singles entries land in roughly the $90 to $150 CAD range, with doubles and relays priced per team. Popular events like HYROX Vancouver sell out, so registering early is both cheaper and the safest way to lock in your spot.

How do I get HYROX presale early access?

The surest way is to train at an authorized HYROX Training Club. As an authorized HYROX Training Club, CrossFit BC gives active members early access to HYROX ticket pre-sales for races all over the world before the general public, from Vancouver and Toronto to races abroad. We email the pre-sale code the moment HYROX releases it, so members lock in their city, division, and time slot before popular races sell out, then travel and race with a crew that trains together.

What does HYROX stand for?

HYROX is not an acronym. The name blends hybrid fitness with the sport's mix of running and functional strength. In practice it means one standardized global fitness race: 8 kilometres of running paired with 8 functional workout stations, run identically in every city so you can compare your time against athletes worldwide.

Is HYROX CrossFit?

No, HYROX and CrossFit are separate sports. HYROX is a fixed-format endurance race with the same 8 runs and 8 stations every time. CrossFit is constantly varied strength and conditioning with no set test. They complement each other well, which is why CrossFit BC coaches both under one roof in Olympic Village.

How does HYROX work?

You run 1 kilometre, complete one functional station, then repeat until you finish 8 runs and all 8 stations: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, row, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and 100 wall balls to close it out. The clock runs the whole time, including transitions, and your total time is your result.

How heavy are the wall balls in HYROX?

In the standard divisions the wall ball is 6 kg (about 13 lb) thrown to a 10 ft target for men, and 4 kg (about 9 lb) to a 9 ft target for women, with 100 reps as the final station. Pro divisions use heavier balls. CrossFit BC trains wall ball volume and pacing every week so the last station does not break you.

How long is the sled push in HYROX?

The HYROX sled push is 50 metres, run as four 12.5 metre lengths on a dedicated track. Loads scale by division and by event flooring. CrossFit BC has a full 30 metre sled track on-site so you can rehearse race-spec sled mechanics before you compete.

I'm not a runner. Can I still do HYROX?

Yes. HYROX isn't a running race - it's a fitness race. Running segments are broken up by functional stations, and we train you for all of it. You don't need to be fast to start.

Do I need to have raced before?

Not at all. Many members train for months before their first race. We build your fitness, teach pacing, and get you confident before race day.

How fit do I need to be to start?

If you can run a few kilometres and do basic functional movements, you're ready. We scale everything. That's what the training is for.

What does a typical HYROX class at CrossFit BC look like?

A standard 60-minute session runs: 10-min warm-up (mobility + run drills + activation), 5-min movement primer on the day's stations (e.g. sled mechanics, wall ball depth, ski technique), then a 35-40 min main piece that pairs running intervals with 2-3 race stations – for example 4 × (400 m run + 20 wall balls + 50 m sled push) – finishing with a short cooldown and accessory work for posterior chain or core. Our 90-min SIM-ilar sessions (3× per week) stack race-intensity efforts and race-level volume so you rehearse pacing, transitions, and station strategy.

How does scaling work for beginners?

Every movement, load, and distance is scaled to where you are today. Examples: runs become rower or bike intervals if your knees aren't ready; sled push drops to an empty sled or a band-resisted march; wall balls go from 20/14 lb to 14/10 lb, or to a med-ball squat-and-press; burpee broad jumps become step-up burpees; sandbag lunges shorten the distance or drop to bodyweight. Coaches set your scaling at the whiteboard before the clock starts, and you progress on a 4-6 week ramp until you're hitting the prescribed standard.

Can I do HYROX and CrossFit?

Absolutely. Most of our HYROX athletes also do CrossFit. The two complement each other perfectly - broad fitness base plus race-specific work.

What are the SIM-ilar classes?

3 of our 15+ weekly HYROX sessions are 90-minute SIM-ilar classes designed to train race intensity, pacing, transitions, and station strategy. They are race-prep classes rather than a literal race replay, and they are one of the best ways to build race-day confidence, rhythm, and readiness.

Is CrossFit BC a HYROX Training Club?

Yes. Our coaches are certified HYROX Performance Coaches who have raced HYROX themselves.

How does CrossFit BC compare to a HYROX-only gym?

We're not against single-modality HYROX gyms - they have their place. But we offer something different: 15+ HYROX classes a week (3 are 90-min SIM-ilar) plus the CrossFit, Olympic lifting, gymnastics, and personalised coaching that build the strength and engine behind your HYROX time. You get race-specific work AND the broader athletic base that keeps you progressing for the next decade. Same coaches who design your race plan know your back-squat history. That's the hybrid advantage.

What's the Sunday Funday Cardio Club?

Every Sunday, 7:30-8:30am. A coached engine session that is welcoming at every pace. Some weeks a seawall run, some weeks rowing, ski and bike intervals, some weeks a mix. Social at the front and back, honest work in the middle. Free for members and non-members. Formerly the Sunday Run Club.
