Forty classes a week, seven days a week, every one of them coached from the first minute to the last.
Never done CrossFit? Good. That's exactly what we're here for.
Try a Class With UsWe have been running CrossFit classes at 278 East 1st Avenue since 2008, which makes us one of the oldest CrossFit affiliates still going anywhere in the world. Forty classes a week, seven days a week, every one of them coached from the first minute to the last.
Most people who walk in for the first time are nervous about the same two things: that they are not fit enough yet, and that everyone else will know what they are doing. So let's deal with both of those properly, because the honest answer to the first one is that nobody is fit enough yet, and that is the entire reason the classes exist.
Every class is 60 minutes and follows the same shape, so you always know where you are.
First 10 minutes. Whiteboard. Your coach walks through the day's session, explains what it is meant to do for you, and asks who is dealing with what. Sore shoulder, bad sleep, first week back after a holiday. This is where scaling gets decided, out loud, before anyone touches a barbell.
Next 10 minutes. Warm up together. Nothing complicated, mostly getting warm and moving through the ranges the session is about to ask for.
Next 15 to 20 minutes. Skill or strength. Some days that is a lifting piece with sets across. Other days it is gymnastics work, and if that word sounds intimidating, it usually means learning to hang from a bar properly. Your coach is teaching and correcting the whole time.
Next 10 to 20 minutes. The workout itself. This is the part people picture when they think CrossFit. It is also the shortest part of the hour.
Last 5 minutes. Cool down, put your equipment away, and usually stand around talking for longer than you meant to.
Turn up 15 minutes early. Someone will meet you at the door, not point you at a sign-in tablet.
Before anything starts, your coach will take you round the space, show you where things live, and ask what you have done before. If the answer is nothing, that is genuinely fine and it is the most common answer we get.
During the whiteboard brief they will give you your version of the session. Lighter loads, a different movement, fewer rounds, whatever fits. You will be doing the same workout as everyone else, at a level that makes sense for your body today.
Then you do the class. Afterwards someone will ask how it went, and mean it.
You get three of these before you decide anything. No application form, no assessment to pass, no sales meeting at the end.
CrossFit has a reputation problem that comes from the internet rather than from gyms. What you see online is the top 0.1% at the Games. What happens here on a Tuesday morning is a mixed room of people in their thirties, forties, fifties and beyond, all doing the same session at different weights and different movements.
Scaling is not the beginner version of the workout. It is the workout, set at the level that will actually make you better. Our most experienced members scale things every week, usually because something is sore or they are building back from an injury. Watching that happen in front of you is a large part of why new people relax.
Classes run every day. Weekdays we start at 5:30am and the last one goes at 6pm, with times at 6:30, 7:30, 10:00, 1:00, 4:00 and 5:00 through the middle of the day. Weekends we run 8:30 and 9:30 on both Saturday and Sunday. The full week is on our class schedule.
Class size averages around 12. That matters more than it sounds, because it is the number that decides whether your coach actually sees your third rep.
The rooms feel different depending on when you come:
5:30 and 6:30am. Smaller and quieter, often 7 to 14 people. Mostly folks training before work who want to be in and out. Very little chat before the whiteboard.
10am and 1pm. Our smallest classes, sometimes 5 or 6 people. Shift workers, parents, people who work from home. Close to a semi-private session for the price of a group class, and the most underrated slot we run.
4pm, 5pm and 6pm. The busiest weekday block, usually 10 to 16. This is where the gym feels most like a gym.
Saturday 8:30 and 9:30. Our biggest classes, close to 20, and the most social hour of the week. If you want to meet people, come Saturday.
Your membership covers all of these. Most people build their week around CrossFit classes and add one or two of the others. The full week, with times, is on the class schedule, and the classes FAQ explains what each session is for and how to book your spot.
CrossFit. The core of the week. Constantly varied strength and conditioning, coached for all levels. Every workout scales, so you train hard, move well and build real fitness.
HYROX 60. A 60-minute race-inspired class built around ergs, sleds, carries, lunges, wall balls and running fitness. You do not need to be registered for a race to join.
HX90 SIM-ilar. A 90-minute race-prep session for pacing practice, transitions and building confidence under fatigue.
Olympic Lifting Development. Focused coaching for the snatch, clean and jerk, squats, pulling strength, positions and technique.
Gymnastics Skills Development. Skill-focused coaching for bodyweight strength and control: pulling, pushing, inversions and CrossFit gymnastics progressions.
Mobility. A guided session to help you move better, recover better and keep training consistently.
Living Legends. Strength, conditioning and confidence-building for adults 60+ who want to stay capable, strong and active for life.
Open Gym. Independent training time for members: strength, accessories, skill practice, conditioning or make-up work.
Sunday Cardio Club. Coached engine work every Sunday at 7:30am. Running, rowing, ski, bike or a mix, depending on the week. Every pace welcome, and free for everyone.

Our programming
Our group classes follow PRVN programming, founded by Shane Orr and used by Justin Medeiros and other athletes at the top of the sport. We use it because it is properly periodised. Strength, skill and engine blocks are cycled deliberately, so you are building towards something rather than turning up to a random workout every day.
Stephen Tyler, our Director of Coaching, integrates each cycle into our classes and tailors it to the people actually in the room. He also runs our specialty blocks: Olympic lifting cycles, gymnastics progressions, HYROX prep, and in-house competitions. You can meet Stephen and the rest of the team on our coaches page.
Elite tested, member scaled. Both halves of that matter.
It's not just the workout. It's the coach who remembers your shoulder thing, the member who high-fives you after a tough round, and the feeling of walking out knowing you did something real.
You'll never train alone. Our coaches cue, correct, encourage, and adapt every workout to your ability.
Beginners and competitors train side by side. Every movement has progressions so you're always challenged, never overwhelmed.
Warm-up, skill or strength, workout, cool-down. Walk in, get it done, get on with your day.
You'll learn names. You'll have training partners. The community at CrossFit BC is the best part.
No two days are the same. Our programming mixes strength, gymnastics, and conditioning to build well-rounded fitness.
Members get stronger, leaner, more confident, and more capable. CrossFit works because it challenges everything.
In real Vancouver life
CrossFit builds broad, transferable fitness. Here is what that actually looks like around Vancouver, the reason our members train in the first place.
Squats, step-ups, and engine work make the 2,830 steps feel like a hike instead of a survival test.
The aerobic base you build in class is the same one that gets you around False Creek or up the bridge without dread.
Deadlifts and carries mean loading a paddleboard, kayak, or cooler onto the car without a sore back the next day.
We open 5:30 AM weekdays so downtown members train, shower in our change-rooms, and are at their desk by 8.
Legs, core, and conditioning that hold up run after run, so the last descent feels as strong as the first.
Groceries up a Mount Pleasant walk-up, a toddler on your hip at Hinge Park, a couch up three flights. Trained for, not endured.
We are at 278 East 1st Avenue in Olympic Village, a few minutes from Science World and walkable from the SkyTrain.
There are showers and proper change rooms, so training before work or on your lunch break actually works rather than being a logistics problem. If you ride in, there is secure bike storage. If you drive, there is parking nearby.
Bring: training shoes with a flat-ish sole, a water bottle, and clothes you can move in. That is the whole list. You do not need lifting shoes, a belt, a weight vest or your own skipping rope to start, and please do not buy any of it before your first class.
If you are coming straight from work, give yourself the full 15 minutes. The first class is the one you least want to be rushing into.
If it is a fit, we will talk about which membership makes sense for how often you actually want to train. If it is not, we will say so, and you will not hear from us with a discount two weeks later. If you have not started yet, your first three classes are free.
Who CrossFit is for
Three honest portraits of the people walking into our CrossFit classes every week. If one sounds like you, you'll fit right in.
First-timers
Curious but nervous. Your coach scales every class so you're challenged, not overwhelmed, and 'I've never done this' is the most common answer we hear.
Returners
Former athlete, busy parent, post-injury, or just out of practice. We rebuild your base with smart progressions and coaches who notice when you're missing.
Hybrid athletes
You're not chasing a specific sport, you want to feel athletic in everyday life. Constantly varied programming builds the broad fitness base that carries everything else.
Last year alone, 7 new CrossFit BC babies joined our fit fam. We coach moms before, during, and after pregnancy because fitness doesn't pause for motherhood.
🤰
Every movement is scaled for where you are in your pregnancy. Your coach adjusts load, range of motion, and intensity each trimester. You keep training. You keep getting stronger. You just do it differently.
👶
Coming back after baby is a process, not a race. We rebuild your core, pelvic floor, and confidence at whatever pace feels right. No pressure, no timelines. Just smart, coached movement.
💪
Sleep-deprived, juggling schedules, running on coffee. We get it. Our coaches meet you where you are that day. Some days you crush it. Some days you just showed up. Both count.
We scale the movement, never the mindset. You're still an athlete.
Coaches check in with you every class. Communication is everything.
No blanket rules. Your body, your pregnancy, your pace.
We work with your healthcare provider's guidelines, not against them.
Core bracing, breathing mechanics, and pelvic floor awareness are built into coaching cues.
You train alongside everyone else. No separate classes, no isolation. Just smart modifications.

“I walked in thinking I'd be the slowest person in the room. Two years later, my coach knows my squat cues, my classmates know my dog, and I've never been stronger. CrossFit BC is the first gym I've actually stuck with.”

Hybrid training combines strength, engine, skill, and strategy into one programmed system. Not CrossFit on Monday and HYROX on Tuesday, one coaching team building one athlete who can do both, and stay capable for the next twenty years.
