Self-Directed Training
Your time, your training, our space. Come work on the stuff that matters most to you: skills, extra lifts, makeup WODs, or just getting some quality reps in. Think of it as your gym within the gym.For people already training with us. We'll explain why below, and it's a good reason.
At a glance
Open Gym is for people already training with us. That is a safety rule, not a sales one. It is self-directed, so we need to know you have been coached, you know the equipment, and someone here knows your name.
We do not sell Open Gym on its own, and there is no $30 Open Gym visit for non-members.
Visiting Vancouver? We'd love to host you for a class. Book a drop-in for one of our 60-minute CrossFit or HYROX classes, fully coached, scaled to your level, and a great way to experience CrossFit BC.
It's your time. Here's how people make the most of it.
Work on pull-up progressions, handstand holds, double-unders, or any gymnastics skill you want to drill.
Follow your own strength program, work on accessory movements, or add extra barbell volume outside of class.
Missed a class? Come in during Open Gym to do the WOD on your own, with equipment and space available.
Practicing event-specific work for CrossFit competitions, HYROX races, or other fitness events.
If you follow a coach's remote programming or have your own plan, Open Gym gives you the space and equipment.
Light rowing, stretching, foam rolling, or easy movement on rest days to keep your body moving.
Open Gym runs during designated hours so you can fit in extra training when it works for you.
Barbells, rigs, rowers, bikes, SkiErgs, dumbbells. Everything in our 3,500 sq ft facility is available.
A coach is always present during Open Gym hours. You're self-directed, but never unsupported.
This is your time to work on what matters most to you. No programming constraints, no group pace.
You want extra time to practice specific skills
You follow your own or a remote coach's programming
You missed a class and want to make up the workout
You're preparing for a competition or race
You want flexibility in when and how you train
You like self-directed training with quality equipment
Your classes are the main event. Open Gym is where you put in the extra work that makes the difference: the skill practice, the accessory lifts, the stuff that turns good into great. On your schedule, at your pace.
How do I get Open Gym access?
Open Gym is for people already training with us. On any monthly membership it is included at no extra cost. On a class pack, each Open Gym visit spends one credit, the same as booking a class. We do not sell Open Gym separately to non-members, and there is no $30 Open Gym visit.
Is Open Gym coached?
Open Gym is supervised, not coached. A coach is present for safety and questions, but you direct your own training. For coached sessions, join our regular classes.
How does Open Gym work on the 3-month plan?
On the 3-month Quarterly plan, you get 3 weekly visits. Each visit can be used as a coached class OR as an Open Gym slot, your choice, week by week. They're interchangeable, but not stackable. (e.g. you can't use one slot for class and a second slot for Open Gym on the same day in addition to your weekly cap.)
How does Open Gym work on the 6- and 12-month plans?
Our 6- and 12-month plans include unlimited classes plus unlimited Open Gym during scheduled Open Gym hours. Use them in any combination, there's no per-week cap.
Is Mobility included in my membership?
Yes, on any monthly membership. On a class pack it works like any other class and spends one credit.
Do I need to be an existing member?
You need to be training with us. Any monthly membership includes Open Gym, month to month included. Class pack holders can use it too, and each visit spends one credit. Non-members cannot use Open Gym, so book a coached class or the free trial first.
Does an Open Gym visit use a class credit?
On a monthly membership, no. Open Gym is included and it does not touch anything. On a class pack, yes, one Open Gym visit spends one credit, exactly like booking a class.
Can I use Open Gym on a class pack?
Yes. Book it like any other session and it spends one credit. If you are using Open Gym most weeks, do the math against a monthly membership, because the membership is almost certainly cheaper for you.
Why can't non-members use Open Gym?
Safety, not sales. Open Gym is self-directed, meaning there's no coach guiding your movements or scaling your workout. We need to know that anyone training unsupervised in our facility has been coached, understands our equipment and safety protocols, and has an established relationship with our coaching team.
Can I bring a friend?
Non-members cannot use Open Gym. If your friend wants to train at CrossFit BC, they can book a drop-in for one of our 60-minute CrossFit or HYROX classes, or start with our free trial. Those are fully coached sessions where safety and scaling are handled by our team.
When is Open Gym available?
Check our schedule page for current Open Gym hours. Times vary by day and are subject to class schedules.
Can beginners use Open Gym?
We recommend completing your Foundations course and attending group classes for at least a month before using Open Gym. You need enough experience to train safely on your own.

Your membership covers more than the class you booked. Cardio Club on Sundays and Mobility through the week are bonus classes, on top of whatever you normally train. Open Gym is there whenever the floor is open.
Nothing extra to buy, nothing extra to book. On a class pack it works the same way, a Mobility class or an Open Gym visit spends one credit, the same as any other class.
Training for a race? The Engine Room is a 12-week membership built around it, 5+ coached sessions a week.

Strength plus engine. Power plus endurance. The new gold standard in fitness is not a sport, it is a way of training. Here is what the hybrid shift means, why it is happening, and how to know if it is for you.
