Beginner HYROX Training in Vancouver: How to Start Smart
This article is part of the CrossFit BC journal, written by the coaching staff who run our classes in Olympic Village, Vancouver. We publish what we teach on the floor: training decisions, recovery, nutrition, and the honest tradeoffs behind them.
If you can run a few kilometres and do basic bodyweight movements (squats, push-ups, lunges), you're fit enough to start. You don't need to be race-ready on day one. That's what the training is for.
CrossFit BC is the official HYROX Training Club in Vancouver, based in Olympic Village at 278 East 1st Avenue. We run 18 coach-led HYROX classes a week plus three 90-minute SIM-ilar race simulations, led by certified HYROX Performance Coaches.
HYROX returns to Vancouver in December 2026 at a large indoor venue, running over a full weekend with multiple start waves each day. The 2025 race was held at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Booking your wave early is recommended because the busiest categories sell out.
It is one of the largest fitness races in Canada. The 2025 Vancouver race drew 7,892 athletes across 14 divisions, from first-time Open racers to Pro doubles and team relays, which gives you a huge, supportive field to race alongside.
Most beginners need 12 to 16 weeks of consistent training. If you already have a fitness base, you might need less. Our coaching team can help you build a timeline based on your starting point.
Yes. Many first-time racers walk portions of the running sections and still finish strong. HYROX is about finishing, not finishing fast. Go at your own pace.
Either works. Doubles or relay is a great way to share the experience and reduce the workload for your first race. Solo is more challenging but gives you a complete personal benchmark.
Registration typically ranges from $100 to $150 CAD depending on when you register and which category you enter. Early registration is usually cheaper.

It is challenging, but it is built to be approachable. Every movement is simple, you race the clock rather than other people, and you can walk the running sections and still finish. With 12 to 16 weeks of consistent training, most beginners finish their first race feeling strong.

No, but it helps. CrossFit builds the strength and conditioning base that carries every HYROX station, which is why many of our athletes train both. You can also train HYROX specifically through our classes and SIM-ilar simulations. See why CrossFit and HYROX work together.

You can start for free with three trial classes at CrossFit BC. From there, most beginners join on a membership or begin with our HYROX Foundations on-ramp, which bundles testing, private coaching, and class access. Race entry is a separate fee paid to HYROX, usually in the $90 to $150 CAD range.
