Straight answers

The honest answers before you book

Motivation and consistency

“I always start strong and then quit.”

Motivation is a mood, so we build around structure instead. A booked class, a coach who notices when you are missing, and training partners who expect you carry the weeks when motivation does not show up. Consistency here is a system, not a personality trait.

From Dai's writing: How to stay motivated on days when you want nothing more but to binge on Netflix (2016)

Stress and burnout

“I'm too burned out to add a workout.”

It depends entirely on the dose, which is why we ask about sleep, work load, and stress before programming anything. On a flat week that can mean Zone 2 work, breathing, and lighter loads. Training should leave you steadier, not more depleted.

Tell your coach what kind of week you are having. Adjusting the session is normal, not a setback.

From Dai's writing: From Lions to Laptops: The Evolution of Stress in the Modern Workspace (2024)

Stress and burnout

“Nothing I try shifts the weight around my middle.”

Chronic stress and short sleep change how your body stores fat, so more hard training on top of an already loaded nervous system can stall progress. We look at sleep, stress, food, and training together before turning any dial up.

From Dai's writing: Your mid-section, why stress leads to weight gain (2015)

Training after 40

“I'm over 40 and I'm tired all the time.”

Persistent fatigue after 40 usually has several inputs: sleep debt, under-eating protein, alcohol, stress, and in some cases hormones worth checking with your doctor. Strength work is one of the few levers that improves energy rather than borrowing it.

From Dai's writing: Time to get out of your energy-saving mode? Why you feel tired all the time (2022)

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a personal trainer cost in Vancouver in 2026?
Personal training in Vancouver typically runs $90 to $160 per session in 2026, depending on the trainer's certifications, experience, and whether sessions include programming and check-ins between visits. At CrossFit BC, our most popular entry point is the 30-Day Lifestyle Reset (8 PT sessions plus 12 group classes, DEXA, and nutrition coaching) at $999. Ongoing PT packages are built per-client at your free consult so you only pay for what you'll actually use.
Which Vancouver neighbourhoods do you serve?
We're based at 278 East 1st Avenue in Olympic Village, a 5 to 10 minute walk from the Main Street, Science World, and Olympic Village SkyTrain stations. The bulk of our personal training clients come from Olympic Village, Mount Pleasant, Yaletown, Fairview, Kitsilano, downtown Vancouver, and False Creek. Parking is available on-site.
What should I look for in a Vancouver personal trainer?
Three things: real certifications (CF-L2 or higher, plus sport-specific creds like HYROX Performance Coach or USAW), experience with your specific goal (HYROX, longevity, post-injury, strength), and a free intake consult so you can confirm fit before paying. At CrossFit BC, every trainer is CF-L2+ certified, every client starts with a free consult, and you're matched to a coach based on your goals, not on who has open slots.
How much does personal training cost?
Pricing depends on the package. Our 30-Day Lifestyle Reset ($999) includes 8 PT sessions plus group classes, nutrition coaching, and DEXA + Nutrition Strategy Sessions. For ongoing PT, reach out and we'll build a package around your goals and budget.
How often should I do personal training?
Most clients do 1–2 PT sessions per week alongside group classes. Your coach will recommend a frequency based on your goals, experience, and recovery.
Can I combine PT with group classes?
Absolutely. Most of our PT clients also train in group classes. It's the best of both worlds: personalised coaching plus the energy and accountability of a community.
Do I need any experience to start?
None. Personal training is the most beginner-friendly way to start. Your coach teaches every movement from scratch and builds your program around where you are right now.
What's the difference between PT and the 30-Day Lifestyle Reset?
The 30-Day Lifestyle Reset is a structured 30-day program with PT, group classes, nutrition coaching, and daily accountability. Ongoing PT is flexible, session-based coaching you can continue long-term. Many members start with the Lifestyle Reset and transition to ongoing PT.
Can I try a group class before committing to PT?
Yes. Everyone starts with 3 free classes. Come try us out, meet the coaches, and decide what feels right. There's no pressure to commit to anything.
What is the difference between personal training and group training?
Personal training gives you a fully customized program, undivided coach attention, and flexible scheduling built around your goals. Group training offers a high-energy team atmosphere, community-driven accountability, and a lower monthly cost. At CrossFit BC, most PT clients do both. Personal training clients get group class access included, so you get precision coaching plus the motivation of training alongside a community.
