New competition format

XENOM Is Coming: The Decathlon of Fitness That Could Change Hybrid Competition Forever

A new 10-event, two-day global competition is entering the fitness world, and it might be the clearest test yet for the modern hybrid athlete. Here's what XENOM is, why it matters, and how CrossFit BC athletes can start preparing now.

Cinematic still life of a loaded barbell with red bumper plates, gymnastic rings, sled, wall ball, kettlebell and Concept2 rower under stage lighting, the hybrid arsenal XENOM tests

The bigger picture

Every few years, fitness evolves.

CrossFit changed what functional fitness meant. HYROX standardized hybrid racing and proved millions of people would line up to suffer if you measured it. Now XENOM is entering with a decathlon-style format designed to test total fitness across strength, endurance, gymnastics, power, engine, skill and grit.

What makes it interesting is the question it asks. CrossFit asks, "are you ready for anything?" HYROX asks, "how fast can you do this exact race?" XENOM asks something different.

XENOM is not just asking, "are you good at one thing?" It is asking, "how complete are you?"

Section 01

What is XENOM?

XENOM bills itself as the Decathlon of Fitness. It is a stadium-scale, 10-event competition contested over two days, designed to create a standardized global benchmark for total athleticism.

Athletes are scored event by event, and every score adds up to a single number called the Elite Performance Index. That number is your global ranking. Win one event and tank another, and the math will catch you. The athlete who finishes on top is the one who is good at everything.

  • 10 events
  • 2 days
  • 4 divisions, 3 categories
  • 1 score (Elite Performance Index)

Source of truth for divisions, weights and event standards: xenom.global. Always check the official site before signing up; standards can shift. For HYROX, see our official HYROX race standards page (Open, Pro, Doubles, Relay).

Section 02

Why is XENOM getting attention?

The hybrid athlete went mainstream. People who lift, run, ride, swim and train gymnastics in the same week are no longer the niche, they are the norm. The market wants something to chase.

CrossFit gave that crowd community and the Open. HYROX gave them a race they could actually train for, with a clock that does not lie. XENOM is positioning itself as the next layer: a fixed, broad, points-based test that combines the skill demand of CrossFit with the repeatability of HYROX.

The buzz also comes from the production side. Stadium-scale venues (The Star in Frisco, Olympia in London), equipment and nutrition partnerships with brands like Rogue and Momentous, and a growing competition calendar give it the look of something built to last.

Healthy skepticism is fair. Plenty of competitions have launched and faded. But the format itself, ten standardized events scored together, fills a real gap. That alone makes it worth watching closely.

Section 03

XENOM vs CrossFit vs HYROX

Three formats, three philosophies. They overlap more than they compete. Here's the honest side-by-side.

The honest take: XENOM does not need to replace CrossFit or HYROX. It may end up as another expression of the same bigger movement: people want fitness that means something outside the mirror.

Section 05

What is the Elite Performance Index?

The Elite Performance Index is XENOM's scoring system. Every event awards points, and your total points across all 10 events become your global ranking. One number, all ten tests.

It works the same way decathlon scoring has worked in athletics for over a century. You can be elite at one event and still lose ground if you bleed points elsewhere. Specialists get exposed. Generalists get rewarded.

Instead of asking "did I win?", XENOM asks "where do I stand, and how much better can I become?"

For most athletes, that is the more interesting question. It turns competition into a long-term ladder, not a one-day verdict.

The EPI is also standardised and repeatable, which means it travels with you. Your score in Dallas and your score in London sit on the same scale, so progress is measured against the standard rather than against whoever happened to show up that weekend. XENOM publishes an official EPI calculator so you can see how your current lifts and times score before you ever enter a competition.

Section 06

Who is XENOM for?

  • CrossFit athletes who want a standardized target and a global benchmark.
  • HYROX athletes who want to add skill and strength to their engine.
  • Olympic lifting fans who happen to also have an aerobic engine.
  • Everyday athletes who train hard and want a meaningful, measurable challenge.
  • Competitive but community-minded people who want to chase something together.
  • People who want to test themselves without needing to be Games-level athletes.

You do not need to be elite to be curious. You need a plan, good coaching, and the humility to build your capacity step by step.

Section 07

The Complete Athlete Advantage

XENOM rewards athletes who can do a lot of things well. Here's the qualities the format calls forward.

Strength under the bar
Olympic lifting technique
Gymnastics skill (push, pull, invert)
Aerobic base for the long pieces
Anaerobic power for the short, brutal ones
Barbell cycling efficiency
Grip endurance
Movement efficiency under fatigue
Pacing and event strategy
Recovery between efforts
Mindset, nerves and composure
Strength without endurance gets exposed. Endurance without skill gets exposed. Skill without engine gets exposed.

Section 09

Why CrossFit BC is built for this

CrossFit BC has been coaching hybrid athletes in Vancouver since 2008. The qualities XENOM is built to test are the exact ones our weekly schedule already trains.

  • CrossFit classes build strength, gymnastics, power, conditioning and resilience.
  • HYROX classes build engine, pacing, running capacity and station-style fitness.
  • Olympic lifting work supports snatch and clean performance under fatigue.
  • Coaching supports safe progression and skill development, not just hard workouts.
  • Community keeps people consistent, which is the single biggest predictor of results.
  • Scalable programming helps newer athletes build toward big goals without being thrown into the deep end.

CrossFit BC is excited to support athletes preparing for their first XENOM competition. While we are not officially affiliated with XENOM, our CrossFit, HYROX and hybrid training environment helps build the qualities this competition appears designed to test.

Want a coached, structured plan built around the 10 XENOM events? See our XENOM prep program for the full week-by-week breakdown.

Section 10

Should you sign up for XENOM?

You might be ready if…

  • •You already train CrossFit, HYROX or hybrid fitness consistently.
  • •You enjoy measurable goals and benchmark workouts.
  • •You're chasing a real challenge, not just a t-shirt.
  • •You're willing to attack your weaknesses honestly.
  • •You can respect the process, not just the outcome.

You may want more prep if…

  • •You're brand new to technical lifting.
  • •You haven't built running or SkiErg capacity yet.
  • •Gymnastics progressions are still very new to you.
  • •You need to rebuild consistency before adding intensity.

The goal is not to be perfect before you start. The goal is to start preparing intelligently.

Section 11

XENOM, answered

The questions athletes ask us most often about XENOM, the format, and how to train for it from Vancouver.

What is XENOM?
XENOM is a new global fitness competition that calls itself the Decathlon of Fitness. It is a 10-event, two-day, stadium-scale event that scores athletes through the Elite Performance Index, giving every competitor one combined ranking across strength, gymnastics, engine and skill.
Is XENOM like CrossFit?
It shares DNA with CrossFit because it tests broad fitness across lifting, gymnastics and conditioning. The difference is that XENOM is a fixed format with 10 known events, where CrossFit competitions intentionally keep workouts unknown and unknowable until just before they happen.
Is XENOM like HYROX?
Both are standardized formats, which makes them measurable and repeatable. HYROX is a single race of running plus eight functional stations. XENOM is broader: 10 events that include Olympic lifting, gymnastics, barbell cycling and mixed modal pieces.
How many events are in XENOM?
XENOM is built around 10 events over two days, with one combined Elite Performance Index score. From Miami, the four divisions are Foundations, Intermediate (previously Compete), RX and invite-only Elite. Each has Individual, Pairs and Mixed Pairs categories.
When is the next XENOM competition?
XENOM Miami is December 19 to 20, 2026 at Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami Beach, Florida. Tickets are on sale through XENOM. Dallas (June 27 to 28, 2026 at The Star in Frisco) and London (August 29 to 30, 2026 at Olympia) are completed; Paris is announced for Season 001 with its date to be confirmed. Check xenom.global for the latest calendar.
What is the XENOM 005K?
The XENOM 005K is a standalone 2K Echo Ski plus 3K run on the same arena floor, with one event and one leaderboard. It debuted at London on August 30, 2026 (entry was GBP 39) and is also offered at Miami. Individual, Pairs and Mixed Pairs are available. Confirm current rules and prices at xenom.global.
Does XENOM have Pairs and Mixed Pairs?
Yes. Individual, Pairs and Mixed Pairs are offered in every division, including Foundations, Intermediate, RX and Elite.
Where was XENOM Dallas 2026?
XENOM Dallas 2026 was held June 27 to 28, 2026 at The Star in Frisco, Texas. Always confirm dates, venues and tickets on the official XENOM events page before booking.
What is the Elite Performance Index?
The Elite Performance Index is XENOM's points-based scoring system. Each of the 10 events awards points, and your total score across all events determines your global ranking. It works like decathlon scoring: one number tells the whole story of how complete an athlete you are. Because it is standardised and repeatable, your EPI carries from one competition to the next, and XENOM publishes an official EPI calculator at xenom.global/epi so you can estimate your score before entering.
Can beginners do XENOM?
Yes. XENOM added the Foundations division for Miami and future stops. It is open to everyone, with introductory movements, approachable loading and reduced movement complexity. A coach can help you choose a starting point.
What is the Foundations division?
Foundations is the new XENOM division for Miami and future stops. It is open to everyone, with introductory movements, approachable loading and reduced movement complexity across the same 10 events over two days, scored on the Elite Performance Index.
Can I do just one day?
Yes. Day 1 only covers Events 001 to 005 with spectator access to Day 2. Day 2 only covers Events 006 to 010 with spectator access to Day 1. You can also enter the full two-day Decathlon or the standalone XENOM 005K. Confirm current prices and rules at xenom.global.
How do I train for XENOM?
Train all the qualities XENOM tests: strength, Olympic lifting, gymnastics, aerobic and anaerobic capacity, barbell cycling, grip, pacing and recovery. The most efficient route is a coached environment that already programs CrossFit, HYROX and Olympic lifting in a weekly rhythm.
Where can I train for XENOM in Vancouver?
CrossFit BC in Olympic Village runs CrossFit, HYROX and Olympic weightlifting under one roof. That combination already covers the strength, engine, gymnastics and skill demands XENOM is built around. Athletes interested in XENOM-style preparation can come train with us.
Does CrossFit BC offer XENOM-style preparation?
Yes. While we are not officially affiliated with XENOM, our CrossFit, HYROX and Olympic weightlifting classes already build the qualities the competition is designed to test. Coaches can help map your training around an event date and target your weakest of the 10 events.
What should I work on first for XENOM?
Start with the boring fundamentals: a strong aerobic base, clean snatch and clean technique, basic gymnastics (toes-to-bar, strict pull-ups, wall walks) and consistent weekly training. Skill takes longer to build than fitness, so start it early.
Is XENOM good for HYROX athletes?
Yes. HYROX athletes already have engine, pacing and the ability to suffer. XENOM stretches them by adding Olympic lifting, gymnastics and barbell cycling, which forces a more complete training plan and usually makes athletes faster at HYROX too.
Is XENOM good for CrossFit athletes?
Yes. CrossFit athletes already have the broad skill base XENOM rewards. The fixed format actually helps, because you can prepare specifically for known events instead of guessing what the workouts will be.

The future of fitness belongs to the complete athlete.

XENOM might be new, but the idea behind it is timeless.

Build a body that can lift. Build lungs that can last. Build skills that hold up under pressure. Build a mindset that does not fold when things get spicy.

Because the future of fitness is not about being great at one thing. It belongs to the complete athlete.

And if you're in Vancouver and want to start building that athlete, we'd love to help you prepare.
