CrossFit vs HYROX: Which Is Better for Your Goals?

This article is part of the CrossFit BC journal, written by the coaching staff who run our classes in Olympic Village, Vancouver. We publish what we teach on the floor: training decisions, recovery, nutrition, and the honest tradeoffs behind them.

Common questions

Is HYROX harder than CrossFit?

They're hard in different ways. HYROX is a sustained endurance effort over 60 to 90+ minutes. CrossFit workouts are typically shorter but more intense, with higher skill demands. Neither is 'harder' across the board. It depends on your strengths.

Can I switch from CrossFit to HYROX?

Absolutely. Many CrossFit athletes add HYROX to their training. You already have a strong fitness base, so the transition is smoother than starting from scratch. You don't need to stop CrossFit to start HYROX.

Do I need to be a runner for HYROX?

No. HYROX isn't a running race. It's a fitness race. The running segments are broken up by functional stations, and many of our HYROX athletes didn't consider themselves runners when they started training.
