Why Knowing Your Biometrics (and Wearing Whoop) Can Change Your Life

This article is part of the CrossFit BC journal, written by the coaching staff who run our classes in Olympic Village, Vancouver. We publish what we teach on the floor: training decisions, recovery, nutrition, and the honest tradeoffs behind them.

Common questions

Do I really need a wearable to make progress in fitness?

No, plenty of people make great progress without one. But if you've ever felt stuck, fatigued, or like you're working hard without results, biometric data gives you an objective answer instead of a guess. It tends to accelerate the people who use it.

Is Whoop better than an Apple Watch, Garmin, or Oura Ring?

Each device has strengths. Whoop is built specifically around recovery, sleep, and training load with no notifications or distractions. We find it the cleanest tool for athletes who want clear daily decisions about how hard to train. Oura is great for sleep-focused people. Garmin and Apple are more general-purpose.

How long does it take to see useful patterns in the data?

About two to three weeks. The first week is your baseline. By week three, you start seeing how alcohol, late meals, screen time, and stress affect your recovery in real, personalized ways.
