HYROX Prep Mistakes Most Vancouver Athletes Make
This article is part of the CrossFit BC journal, written by the coaching staff who run our classes in Olympic Village, Vancouver. We publish what we teach on the floor: training decisions, recovery, nutrition, and the honest tradeoffs behind them.
Most athletes need 12 weeks of structured prep to race well. With a baseline of CrossFit or running fitness you can prep in 8 weeks. Without one, give yourself 16 to 20 weeks and start with our HYROX Foundations program.
You need to become one. Running is 60 to 75 percent of your total race time. The fastest path is two quality runs per week — one long aerobic effort and one threshold session — for the full prep block.
Pacing the sled push too aggressively. Adrenaline lies to you in the first station, you spike your heart rate, and the next kilometre of running is destroyed. Start the sled at 80 percent of what you think you can do.
