Why 30-Day Resets Actually Work (The Behavioural Science)

This article is part of the CrossFit BC journal, written by the coaching staff who run our classes in Olympic Village, Vancouver. We publish what we teach on the floor: training decisions, recovery, nutrition, and the honest tradeoffs behind them.

Common questions

Is 30 days really long enough to change a habit?

Long enough to start a habit, not long enough to fully cement one. UCL research found habit formation takes a median of 66 days. Thirty days is the floor for what behavioural scientists call identity priming — the shift from doing a behaviour to identifying with it. That shift is what every long-term change rides on.

Will I lose weight on a 30-day lifestyle reset?

Most CFBC reset members lose between 4 and 12 pounds, but weight is not the point and we do not optimise for it. The point is to install the four mechanisms — constraint, feedback loops, community, and identity reinforcement — that make the next 30, 60, and 90 days easier.

How much time per week does the reset take?

Four hours is the floor — three workouts of about 60 minutes, one weekly check-in, and roughly 30 minutes of meal prep. If you cannot find four hours a week for your own health, your calendar is the problem we need to solve first, not the program.
