What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a strength and conditioning method built on constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity. It is coached in small group classes and scaled so any fitness level can train the same workout safely, building broad, all-around fitness rather than one specialty.

A plain-language definition from the CrossFit BC glossary. We explain the term the way a coach would explain it mid-class, then show where it fits in an actual training week.

Common questions

Is CrossFit safe for beginners?

Yes, when it is properly coached and scaled. A good coach matches the weight, reps, and movements to your current ability, which is why people with zero experience train safely alongside competitors in the same class.

Do I need to be fit before I try CrossFit?

No. You get fit by doing it. The whole point of scaling is that you start where you are. Most members arrive after a desk job or a long break and build from there.
