CrossFit Open questions, answered from CrossFit BC. Answers to the most common CrossFit Open questions: 2027 dates, divisions, registration, the new Pairs division and how to prepare, from CrossFit BC in Vancouver.
CrossFit BC has coached Vancouver since 2008, first in Yaletown and, since 2019, from 278 East 1st Avenue in Olympic Village. We run CrossFit, HYROX race prep, Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, and one-on-one coaching seven days a week, with every session scaled to the person doing it.
The 2027 Open starts on February 18, 2027 and runs for three weeks. New workouts come out on February 18, February 25 and March 4. The Open closes on March 8, 2027.
CrossFit announces each workout on Thursday at noon Pacific. You then have until Monday at 5pm Pacific to complete it and submit your result.
Friday Night Lights is how we do the Open at CrossFit BC. Every Friday of the Open (February 19, February 26, March 5), 5 to 8pm, we run the week's workout with heats, trained judges, music and a very loud crowd. Non-members can drop in for $30 per workout.
You can do the workout any time between the Thursday announcement and the Monday deadline, at any affiliate or at home with video. Missing a week only means you will not rank on the full leaderboard.
Most regular class-goers choose Scaled. Rx is for athletes comfortable with every movement at full loads, and Foundations is the entry-level version built for beginners. Adaptive divisions serve athletes with permanent physical or intellectual impairments, run with WheelWOD. If you are unsure, your coach will help you pick before your first workout.
Yes. Anyone 14 or older can enter, and age groups run from teens through masters, so you are ranked against people your own age.
You can do different versions of the workout in different weeks. Your leaderboard placing is based on the version you submit each week, and mixing is allowed. Most people pick one and stick with it.
You register directly with CrossFit at games.crossfit.com. Pick CrossFit BC as your affiliate so your scores show up on our gym leaderboard.
Registration usually opens in mid-January; for 2026 it opened on January 14.
Registration has been about $20 USD in recent seasons; CrossFit confirms 2027 pricing when registration opens. Doing the workouts at CrossFit BC is included in your membership, and non-members can drop in to Friday Night Lights for $30 per workout.
No. Registration is what puts you on the worldwide leaderboard. If you just want to do the workouts with us on Friday nights, you can simply show up, though most people find the leaderboard is half the fun.
New for 2027, CrossFit has announced a Pairs division where two athletes share the work on the same workout. CrossFit is also adding a way for gyms to run in-house team competitions through Open registration.
Not yet. CrossFit has not published the full Pairs rules, including the workout format, age groups and scoring. We will update this page once they are official. Until then, check games.crossfit.com for the latest.
You do not need to be fit to start; the Open is where you find out what you can do. Every workout has a version for every level, and zero reps on one movement still counts as being in the Open.
Keep showing up to class and learn to move well. Our Open prep checklist, movement guides and prep calendar walk you through the weeks between now and February. New to CrossFit? Join on a 12-month Unlimited membership before December 31 and Foundations is included free, which puts you in classes by January.
Yes, as many times as you like before the weekly deadline. Most people do it once and enjoy the weekend.
Yes, with the right division and a coach watching. Our Living Legends 60+ members do it every year, including one who competes in the 65 to 69 division and qualifies at the highest levels of the sport.
