Why Most Fitness Goals Fail (And How to Set Goals That Actually Stick)
This article is part of the CrossFit BC journal, written by the coaching staff who run our classes in Olympic Village, Vancouver. We publish what we teach on the floor: training decisions, recovery, nutrition, and the honest tradeoffs behind them.
Start with your current baseline, not where you wish you were. If you're currently inactive, a goal of 'move my body three times this week' is more realistic and useful than 'train six days a week.' Focus on consistency first, intensity second. As your confidence and fitness build, your goals can grow with you.
Most likely because your goals are too vague, too ambitious, or missing accountability. Switching to specific process goals and building in accountability (a coach, a class schedule, a training partner) dramatically increases follow-through.
Extremely. Research from the American Society of Training and Development found that having a specific accountability appointment raises your likelihood of achieving a goal to 95%, compared to just 10% for simply having an idea.
