Common questions

What is zone 2 cardio in simple terms?

Zone 2 is the easy end of cardio. It is the pace where you can hold a full conversation in complete sentences but you would rather not sing. Your heart rate sits somewhere around 60 to 70 percent of your max, depending on the model you use. The point is sustained, comfortable effort, not a hard workout.

How long should a zone 2 session be?

Most useful sessions are 30 to 60 minutes. Anything shorter and you barely tap into the aerobic adaptations zone 2 is good for. Anything much longer becomes a time and lifestyle problem for most adults. Two to three sessions a week is plenty for most people.

Is zone 2 actually good for fat loss?

Yes and no. Zone 2 burns a higher percentage of fat as fuel during the session, but total calories burned per minute are lower than higher-intensity work. Where zone 2 helps fat loss is by improving your aerobic base, lowering chronic stress load, and making it easier to be active overall. It is a long game, not a fat-burning hack.
