How to Choose a HYROX Gym in Vancouver (2026 Coach's Guide)

This article is part of the CrossFit BC journal, written by the coaching staff who run our classes in Olympic Village, Vancouver. We publish what we teach on the floor: training decisions, recovery, nutrition, and the honest tradeoffs behind them.

Common questions

What's the single most important thing in choosing a HYROX gym?

Coaching. Equipment is the easy part — sleds, SkiErgs, and sandbags are buyable. Coaches who have raced HYROX themselves, who can scale every movement to where you are today, and who run a periodised program are what actually get you to the start line healthy and to the finish line proud.

Is a HYROX-only gym better than a hybrid CrossFit gym for HYROX training?

For pure race-day specificity, a dedicated HYROX studio is fine. But HYROX is an endurance event with heavy strength demands — sled push, wall balls, sandbag lunges. Without a real strength program backing the race work, most athletes plateau within 3 months. A hybrid gym (CrossFit + HYROX) gives you the full athletic base behind the race-specific work, which is why most experienced HYROX athletes train this way.

How many HYROX classes per week should a serious gym offer?

At least 5–6 dedicated HYROX sessions per week, including at least one longer SIM-style session (60–90 minutes) that strings stations together at race intensity. CrossFit BC currently runs 18 HYROX classes a week, including 3 SIM-ilar sessions, which is on the high end of what's available in Vancouver.
