1. When did you join CrossFit BC?

I joined CFBC in August 2017 after having moved to North Van from Kits. about to hit the year and a half mark.

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?

I was already doing some Crossfit style workouts at Pure Payne and really felt that it improved and gave me an edge for Rugby, so when we moved over here me and my mom wanted to keep it going.

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?

So much, I gained a lot of muscle, about 20lbs, lost about 7% body fat and found that the mix of the CFBC programming plus all my extracurricular workouts really made my cardio levels higher and kept them there consistently. All of these improvements made me really want to keep going and improving everywhere.

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?

Just start, it is hard, it is going to suck sometimes, actually all the times, but 1 month in when you can walk up the stairs at work and only get a little out of breath you’ll know it was all worth it.

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?

My favourite exercise without a doubt is the clean, Ive always loved it and I always will. Since starting at CFBC I have learned to do so many new movements that Im learning to love. Rope climbs, handstand push ups, Double unders, kipping pull-ups, toes to bar, and throughout all of this time cleans have stayed at number one and Double unders dead last.

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?

Rugby, ask anyone and they will tell you that I play Rugby, I base my schedules around it, put my body on the line for it, miss crossfit all the time because of injuries and always show up with some new weird bruise or cut in some random place.

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?

My proudest accomplishment is doing a muscle up because it was a movement I genuinely didn’t think id be able to do, and then one day I did.

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?

When I first got to CFBC I was losing weight by doing the Whole30 diet off and on, it was working. But then over the full summer I was here I began getting into the Keto diet, and thats where I lost a lot of stubborn fat and really began to lean out. despite all the improvement, I knew it wasn’t a diet I could sustain, all the clouded mental days, low energy haze and cravings really had me down. Plus I discovered that after my cheat days I felt way better and stronger in the gym, this turned me onto Macros. Everyone’s favourite way to convince yourself you can eat anything because it fits. This worked for a while but I could never quite find a good balance that I enjoyed so this also had me on edge. Then one day I had a nutritional epiphany, I was going to count calories and try to eat healthy, I know sounds impossible but thats what I do know and while it’s a slow going process I am managing to stay fuelled and feeling good for the gym and Rugby.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?

Apparently the fact that Im 20 tends to throw some people off, but overall what you see is what you get with me.

10. What/who inspires you the most?

Working out next to someone who is giving it their all, someone who refuses to quit or be put down. The people who get put down time and time again but still show up every day to put time and effort into themselves. Those are the people who make me push myself to try to be a little bit more like them.
