1. When did you join CrossFit BC?
June 2015

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
I stumbled upon CrossFit BC when I was looking for an alternative to the good ol’ gym. I hit a plateau and knew I had to make a change. I was looking for something to complement my gym workouts, but I quickly found myself enjoying CrossFit so I quit my gym and went all in on CrossFit.

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
Well, I have pecs now! 😉 More importantly, I feel #BetterFasterStronger. 💪 I still have a long way to go, but I have noticed that my WODs have improved a lot. I can lift more now and can go through many workouts pretty quickly. I don’t feel like puking after every workout anymore.

The biggest change though has been in my mindset. Some WODs look terrifying and painful, but I’ve developed a stronger mental capacity to go through those tough workouts.

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
Don’t be intimidated by CrossFit. Coaches always provide modifications to make sure your workouts make sense for your fitness level. The CrossFit BC community is very supportive and helpful. If something’s not clicking with you, there is always someone who can answer your questions.

Also, listen to your body. If you need a rest day or two, do it.

Last but definitely not the least, have fun!

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
I like pistols, pushups and pullups. Basically, any exercise that starts with a P and only involves the body weight. 🙂

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
I’m a fair-weather runner and do half-marathon per year. I also read a lot—I constantly devour books, magazines, blog articles and everything else in between. Really, I’m just a nerd pretending to be an athlete.

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
Well, I finally did bar muscle-ups on October 31, so there’s that! 🙂

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
Not really. I’ve always aimed for a healthy, balanced diet (with at least two cheat days per week), and that hasn’t changed since joining CrossFit. Even my protein intake has also been mostly the same.

What has changed a bit is the timing of my meals and snacks. Going to CrossFit when you’re hungry or too full is not a great experience, so I make sure I time my meals right. That means not having a big meal 2 hours before a workout.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I only learned how to bike earlier this year. I never learned when I was a kid and I avoided learning it for a decade or two. It’s never too late to learn anything!

10. What/who inspires you the most?
My nephews Gabby and Eli inspire me because of their fearlessness and zest for life. My mom also inspires me because she’s the most resilient people I know.
