1. When did you join CrossFit BC?

I joined Crossfit in October, 2015

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?

To start off, I tried a CrossFit class out when I was 12 and flipped a 250lb tire, and that was such a great day for me because I walked out of there being like, WOW that was so much fun. I chose to do CrossFit because my dad, Simon “Daffyd” Hallam was doing CrossFit for quite a few years and I was interested and wanted to do what he did. It also seemed like a good challenge for me and after leaving my hobby that took up most of my time, I wanted to do something that would put me in shape and correct my health and eating habits. I also learned that CrossFit helped me deal with stress. By working out, it took everything off of my mind for an hour a day which helped a lot, plus you got a good workout in.

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?

When I started CrossFit, it was definitely hard at first, but the more I went, the more addicted I became to CrossFit. I have seen changes in my performance, physique and health. I learned that eating right would enhance my performance and would help my physique, which looking back at photos has helped.

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?

My advice would be; CrossFit isn’t like any typical workout at the gym. It challenges both your strengths and weaknesses and it will be hard at the beginning, but if you stick with it and go on average 3-4 times a week, then you will get into CrossFit and want to push yourself every time you go.

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?

It’s hard to say what my favourite CrossFit exercise is, but if I had to chose one it would have to be deadlifts, rope climbs and hand stand walking.

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?

My favourite activity outside of CrossFit is skiing and going on adventures with my friends.

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?

My proudest accomplishment at CrossFit would be getting my double under’s for the first time and being able to do 20 in a row. Another accomplishment would be my deadlift PR, being 200lbs.

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?

Last year in August and September, I worked with Annie, an amazing nutritionist, who directed me and taught me how to prep my meals properly every week, how to measure and to be able to enjoy my food but enjoy in the right way. I still enjoy the occasional cheat days which is totally ok, to those of you out there that think that athletes don’t have cheat days….we definitely do. It’s all about eating the food that you enjoy but in a healthy way.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?

I did Track and Field in High School, and I took on speed-walking and placed 3rd in North Shores, and then went to Provincials.

10. What/who inspires you the most?

My coaches have been and are still inspiring me to this day to keep working hard and pushing my limits, being able to hit a new PR for example every week. I would like to also thank my dad for bringing me into CrossFit in the first place. Annie has also inspired me to keep going and enjoy myself and not worry about anything and to just workout and enjoy life.
