Featured Athlete – Colleen Pelly


1. When did you join CrossFit BC?
About a year and a half ago.

2. Why did you choose CrossFit?
I live across the street – can’t beat that commute time!

3. What changes in your health, physique and overall performance have you seen since starting CrossFit?
I think more than anything the confidence to lift heavier than I thought I could. I have hit new personal records in almost every lift.

4. What advice would you give to someone with regards to starting CrossFit?
I was really intimidated at first and I think what I wish I knew was that there is no reason to be scared! I thought it would matter how much I was lifting and everyone would be judging that, but really the attitude is just that everyone is there to improve their fitness and have a good time, very supportive place.

5. What is your favourite CrossFit exercise?
I love overhead squats.

6. What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit?
Running. hiking— anything outside!

7. What is your proudest accomplishment at CrossFit?
Tackling things that really scared me that were new. I have always been active but never climbed a rope or tried a handstand push up before, and now I feel great doing them! So I guess I am most proud of stepping outside my comfort zone.

8. Have you made any changes to your diet?
Yes! Shout out to #powerupnutrition – For the first time in my life I am being aware of what I am putting in my body and how it can help me fuel for the things I want to accomplish. I feel better than I ever have.

9. Is there something that people would be surprised to know about you?
I have been bitten by a shark.
